Upscale Union

New York, NY

At 145 Central Park West, two apartment units are combined to create a full-floor residence in the San Remo. The large area of the apartment is humanized by creating two sets of enfilades, one around the interior core and one around the perimeter walls. The detailing is inspired by elements of the exterior and lobby of the building, creating an interior context that relates strongly to the building as a whole. The house gallery exhibits a prized collection of paintings by Henry Osawa Tanner, the first African-American painter accepted by the American School in Paris.
