Nestled in a quiet neighborhood in Flushing, Queens, the First Church of Christ, Scientist tells the story of the Christian Scientist faith with light. The church eschews conventional icons of Christianity in favor of a more neutral aesthetic. Respecting this tradition, the main wall of the modest sanctuary space is bent and perforated with openings which catch direct and indirect sunlight, illuminating space behind the lectern. The Reading Room is furnished with bookcases fabricated from frugal pre-finished plywood, carefully detailed.
Larson and Paul provided architectural, interior design and custom furniture design services to the congregation.
